About Tracey-Ann PalmerI grew up in Sydney and attended Monte Sant Angelo Mercy College in North Sydney. I enjoyed science at school so I did a Bachelor of Science with Honours in biochemistry (1985) at the University of Sydney. I worked as a research assistant at the Veterinary School at the University of Sydney until 1988 when I commenced an MBA at the Australian Graduate School of Management (UNSW). After my MBA I worked as a manager for two scientific personnel consultancies.
From 1991 to 2000 I worked in the finance industry in product management, project management and marketing. I then went to live in the USA for two years and enjoy spending more time with my two wonderful daughters. In 2003-4 I lectured (part time) in Marketing at the Central Queensland University (Sydney campus) but decided that science was my true passion and so returned to study at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in 2010 to do a BTeach(Sec) to become a science teacher. During that time I came up with my idea for the Fresh Minds for Science doctoral study. My study aimed to develop strategies to encourage school students to choose to continue with science in their final years of school. I studied my PhD in 2012-2015 under the sensational supervision of Professor Peter Aubusson, School of International Studies and Education UTS:FASS and Associate Professor Paul Burke, Marketing and Deputy Director, Centre for Business Intelligence & Data Analytics (BIDA) located in UTS:Business. You can read all about my work in this website or read my full thesis at https://opus.lib.uts.edu.au/research/handle/10453/37019. I now a lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney teaching a range of subjects to pre-service primary and secondary teachers. I also have been working at the Taronga Conservation Society developing and teaching the new Master of Education (Taronga Conservation Education) qualification offered in association with the University of Sydney. |
